Common idioms and expressions in English

Expressions and idioms are a great way to show your understanding of a language and to impress people around you. In my opinion, it is always fun to discover new expressions. Because I might hear some in my internship, I searched for new idioms to get myself prepared. Maybe I will hear them, and I hope to be able to use them.

A leopard cannot change its spots
It means to not be able to overcome a habit. For example: "I thought I had overcome my legendary laziness but soon it got the upper hand again. A leopard cannot change its spots".

All peaches and cream
Its means that everything is going well, that there is no problem.

As you make your bed, so must you lie in it
It means that you must suffer the consequences of your actions.

As easy as a pie

Be small potatoes
This means that the matter is not important.

Dip a toe in the water
It is to try something new to test your capacities or your willingness, or to have the courage to try it. For example: "If you aren't sure you want to be a nurse, work in a hospital this summer to try it out. Dip a toe in the water."

Practice makes perfect
